What is Intelligence?
We often hear the term and often have said to many people, “You are very intelligent.” But how do you derive intelligence on what term and on what basis you say that he is quite intelligent?
Let us put the meaning of intelligence scientifically.
It is the ability of a person to do calculation, do reasoning, ability to perceive relationships and analogies, The ability to learn from experience, store and retrieve information from memory, ability to solve problems, having good ability to comprehend complex things and ideas, able to speak natural language and understand it, the ability to classify and generalize and able to adjust and adapt to new situations.
Such a long definition of a single term, complex right? Yes, understanding intelligence of a person is a complex thing. No one in this world is intelligent in every field, God has not yet created such an intelligent person.
Types of Intelligence:
American developmental psychologist Howard Gardner, described that the intelligence is multifold.
1. Linguistic Intelligence: The skill and ability to recognize, speak and ability to use mechanisms of speech sounds.
2. Musical Intelligence: The skill and having the art to create, communicate and understand the meanings made of sound, ability to understand the pitch and the rhythm.
3. Logical-Mathematical Intelligence: The skill to use and understand relationships without action or objects. Capacity to understand the complex and abstract ideas and thoughts.
4. Spatial Intelligence: The skill and capacity to perceive spatial and/or visual information, able to change it, able to re-create visual images without having reference to the objects.
5. Bodily-Kinaesthetic Intelligence: The capacity to move parts of the body to solve problems, ability and capacity to control fine and coarse motor skills.
6. Intra-Personal Intelligence: The capacity and skill to differentiate the one’s own feelings, motivations, and intentions.
7. Interpersonal Intelligence: The skill and capacity recognize and differentiate and distinguish among other people’s intentions, feelings and beliefs.
What is Intelligence equipped of?
As we know that intelligence is intangible, non-palpable and untouchable. The intelligence is composed of:
• Reasoning
• Learning
• Problem Solving
• Perception
• Linguistic Intelligence
Distinguish Between Human and Machine Intelligence
Human being has different level of understanding and perseverance. Humans perceive by patterns and learn from experience.
The machines perceive by set of prescribed and derived rules and data stored and provided to it.
Human being are able to store and recall information by patterns.
The machines recalls the information by searching algorithms.
The human beings can make out the object even if some part of the object is not there or it is distorted.
The machines will find it difficult to figure the object as it will search for the algorithm which will not match with the object and hence it may give incorrect result or may not figure out at all.
Concluding Thoughts:
With the invention of Artificial Intelligence, the computers and robots are helping humans to solve the complex problems of humans. Using AI, many problems can be tackled without human intervention. For e.g. Using AI machines and cameras installed in forest, the forest authorities can count and ascertain the census of animal. They can keep a close eye on the location of animals and can prevent wild animals entering to the nearby villages and ultimately save human lives.
